Fundraising
We know that ASB is a bit expensive and at the meeting we talked about different ways to fundraise for the trip. Unfortunately for us, Northeastern's legal team puts up a lot of hoops for us to jump through in terms of collaborative team fundraising. The best option that we have to work together is to attend the sponsored restaurant nights that the Center of Community Service sets up and to direct people to the contribute section of this blog so that they can donate to our team as a whole.
You can also ask people to donate to you individually. This system has proven to be more effective in our experience. We both know ASBers who have offset their entire program fee through personal fundraising! There are multiple ways to initiate this.
- Share the link provided in the contribute section but ask that people specifically donate to just your name, rather than to the whole team.
- Set up a page for yourself on a site such as Fundly or Indiegogo that you can share with friends and family. These are a great way to display your goals for others to see. Keep in mind that these sites usually take a percentage of what you earn as payment for using them. It usually ranges from 3-8% of what you raise.
- Send out a letter requesting donations. This way checks can be sent directly to Northeastern to offset your fees. The Center of Community Service already has one written for ASB which you can access here. You can also use one you've written yourself! Find out more about writing form letters from this site.
- Create a travel blog with a contribute section on it, similar to our contribute section. Post about your previous and future travels and share with friends and family. You can also embed a Paypal donate button on there if you'd like, rather than a link to the Community Service pay page. Find more about blogging here and the Paypal button here.
- Ask for money as gifts for da upcoming holidays!
Trip Information
Many of the questions at the meeting revolved around the type of project we'll be working on, housing arrangements, cultural activities, travel and food. We loved all the questions, and wish we had more definitive answers for you all! We have reached out to Plenitud and are waiting for their reply. The contact there will be the person that tells us the info we're so all curious about. We'll soon have the flight information available for you, as well as hopefully more details on the rest of the travel arrangements. That will all be made available either here or through email, or both, as soon as we know it.
In the meantime, we encourage you to check out Plenitud's website, specifically this page, which is dedicated to all the different projects they do. This should help give you a better idea of the types of work we will be doing. Keep in mind, this is our first year working with Plenitud as an organization, so we will be the first Northeastern students to experience it!

Next Team Meeting
We would love to feature Puerto Rican food in our next team meeting. We'll find some awesome restaurant for us to all go to or hold a little fiesta at one of our (the TL's) apartments. Get ready for some great food! By the time this next meeting rolls around we'll have more information about the trip to give you. Please remember to bring your signed waiver forms next time we see you all -- these are really important. You can find them in the emails we've sent out previously. Can't wait to see everyone again!
